eminent philatelist Mr. Ravi Somani.
Handle your stamps with care, use special tongs
Never
handle your stamps with hands. There are available special tongs with blunt
ends that are used by the stamp collectors. Stamp tongs keep dirt, grease, and perspiration from
traveling from the hand to the stamp. Refrain from using sharp or pointed
tweezers.
According to avid stamp
collector Mr. Ravi Somani, moisture is your
stamps’ biggest enemy. But there are some ways to deal with the situation.
·
Keep your collection in a climate controlled room. If you
have an air conditioner; that might be just the thing you need to filter out
moisture.
·
Another simple way to protect your stamps from moisture is to
put them in a Ziploc bag with a quantity of silica gel, contained in its own
bag.
Never
glue or tape stamps to the albums
Never use glue or tape to secure the stamps on stamp album,
advices Mr. Ravi Somani.
Many new collectors make the mistake of gluing or taping the stamps to the
albums. This will secure the stamp on the album’s page but will destroy it when
you try to take them off.
Never use both sides of album page
Avoid using both sides of an album page. Doing this allows the
stamps on one side to come in contact with the stamps on the other side of the
page. Don’t let that happen since it may decrease the value of the stamp.
Stamps are valuable and full of information; that’s why they
